RTX 5070 and DLSS 5: Support, Limits, and Upgrade Advice

As of September 9, 2026, RTX 5070 support for DLSS 5 is confirmed. To enable the feature in NBA 2K27, you need an RTX 50 Series desktop GPU, the game itself, and the Game Ready driver released on September 3, 2026. In the game, open Features → Video Settings and enable DLSS Neural Rendering. Official announcements confirm these conditions, but they do not provide model-specific RTX 5070 data for frame rate, latency, or image quality. See the full hardware list in the GPU support overview.

DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering uses the game’s rendered image and motion vectors to improve lighting and materials. Motion vectors describe the direction and speed of objects moving through the image, allowing the neural network to track changes between frames. NVIDIA does not describe DLSS 5 as a standalone frame-rate technology. Its public explanation focuses on lighting and materials, and the developer controls the final result. That makes “supports DLSS 5” and “runs DLSS 5 well on RTX 5070” two different claims.

How do you enable DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27?

NVIDIA confirmed in its September 1, 2026 announcement that NBA 2K27 supports DLSS 5 and includes RTX 50 Series desktop GPUs. 2K published its support instructions on September 3 and updated them on September 4. The official steps are:

  1. Confirm that you are using an RTX 50 Series desktop GPU and install the Game Ready driver released on September 3, 2026.
  2. Launch NBA 2K27 and open Features → Video Settings.
  3. Enable DLSS Neural Rendering.
  4. Configure Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Reflex separately.
  5. If you encounter frame drops, disable the feature or press F9 to toggle it quickly.

These steps come from the official support page. NVIDIA’s driver announcement also confirms the released game and its settings path, but it does not provide an installer version as a universal minimum requirement. This page therefore treats the September 3 driver release as the documented game requirement rather than turning a version number from an announcement title into a broader rule.

RTX 5070 versus RTX 4070 SUPER: what changes in practice?

RTX 5070’s official specifications come from NVIDIA’s product page, while RTX 4070 SUPER is the adjacent released model used for comparison. Both cards have 12 GB of memory, so upgrading from 4070 SUPER to 5070 does not increase capacity. The architecture changes from Ada Lovelace to Blackwell, and both Tensor Core and RT Core generations move forward, but core counts across architectures do not directly predict performance.

ItemRTX 5070RTX 4070 SUPERPractical impact

CUDA cores6,1447,168The architectures differ, so the core counts cannot be compared directly; conventional raster performance requires testing
Tensor CoreFifth generationFourth generationFifth-generation Tensor Cores provide the hardware foundation for DLSS 5 neural rendering on RTX 50 Series
RT CoreFourth generationThird generationRay-tracing acceleration is newer, but actual ray-tracing frame rates still require testing
Memory12 GB GDDR712 GB GDDR6XCapacity is unchanged; GDDR7 provides higher bandwidth and may move high-resolution texture data faster
Memory interface192-bit192-bitThe interface width is the same; the bandwidth difference mainly comes from the memory type
TGP250 W220 WThe 5070 has the higher board-power specification; sustained clocks and noise depend on the cooler
Recommended system power650 W650 WThese are official test-configuration recommendations; the complete system still matters

RTX 5070’s fifth-generation Tensor Cores provide 988 AI TOPS, while its fourth-generation RT Cores provide 94 TFLOPS. Those figures describe hardware limits, not a conversion into frame rate. The card also supports PCIe Gen 5 and provides three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs plus one HDMI 2.1b output. The Founders Edition measures 242 × 112 mm and uses two slots. Power requires a dual 8-pin adapter or a PCIe Gen 5 cable rated for at least 300 W. The cable rating is not the same thing as TGP.

Within the RTX 50 desktop range, RTX 5070 is a mainstream 1440p model. Its 12 GB of memory and 192-bit interface fit high-quality 1440p gaming better than 4K with maximum textures and path tracing. Regular 1440p gaming and a demanding DLSS 5 workload need separate evaluation: the first depends on conventional rendering performance, while the second depends on the neural-rendering cost in the game. PCIe Gen 5 is not a requirement for enabling DLSS 5. For an older-platform upgrade, check the power connectors and case clearance first.

Which hardware participates in DLSS 5 neural rendering?

DLSS 5 adds a neural-network stage alongside the game’s conventional rendering work. 3D-Guided Neural Rendering uses the rendered image and motion vectors to improve lighting and materials. That involves several parts of the GPU:

  • Tensor Cores: Execute the neural-network matrix operations. RTX 5070’s fifth-generation Tensor Cores provide 988 AI TOPS, which is a hardware ceiling rather than a measured frame rate.
  • RT Cores: Accelerate ray tracing. RTX 5070’s fourth-generation RT Cores provide 94 TFLOPS and affect the speed of ray-traced scenes, but they do not directly determine DLSS 5 image quality.
  • CUDA cores: Generate the base rendered frame. DLSS 5 works on top of that frame, so conventional rendering performance remains important.
  • Memory and bandwidth: Read and write intermediate data for rendering. The 12 GB GDDR7 memory and 192-bit interface set the available capacity and throughput. When capacity becomes insufficient, texture degradation or stutter can appear, although memory is not the only possible cause.

Peak figures do not remain fully loaded throughout a game. Actual clocks depend on power and cooling, and the final DLSS 5 image and frame rate depend on how each game uses the hardware.

What do 12 GB of VRAM and 250 W mean before you buy?

RTX 5070 has the same 12 GB capacity as RTX 4070 SUPER. Upgrading to the 5070 therefore does not create more memory headroom. If a previous card was already running into a memory limit, the 5070 does not remove that particular constraint. With 4K resolution, maximum textures, and path tracing enabled together, 12 GB can cause stutter or texture degradation in some scenes. That does not mean every 4K game will exceed 12 GB. The result depends on the game and its settings, and memory usage changes during play.

If you mainly play competitive games, the effect of 12 GB and 250 W may be limited. If you regularly use maximum textures and ray tracing, leave room to adjust settings. Faster GDDR7 transfers data more efficiently, but it does not increase the capacity of the memory pool.

The 250 W figure is RTX 5070’s board-power specification. It is not the power draw at the wall for the complete PC and it is not a constant measured output. Sustained clocks and noise depend on the specific cooler and case airflow. NVIDIA’s 650 W system recommendation describes a test configuration, so the rest of the system still matters. The power connection is either a dual 8-pin adapter or a PCIe Gen 5 cable rated for at least 300 W; that cable rating is not TGP.

The Founders Edition is a two-slot card measuring 242 × 112 mm, while partner cards can be larger. In a small case, check the cooler length and space for the power cable before buying.

What can the RTX 5070 launch review tell you?

Steven Walton’s TechSpot launch review of RTX 5070 was published on March 4, 2025 (2025-03-04). Its test platform used a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Windows 11 24H2, and Game Ready driver 572.60. The review covers conventional rasterization, ray tracing, and power, so it is a useful reference for RTX 5070’s traditional performance.

This page does not quote its specific frame rates, percentages, prices, or noise figures because those measurements need their full test conditions to be meaningful. More importantly, the review predates the public DLSS 5 release and cannot establish how DLSS 5 performs in NBA 2K27.

Which NBA 2K27 measurements are still missing?

As of September 9, 2026, official announcements confirm that the game is available, the settings path exists, and the driver requirement is documented. They do not provide RTX 5070-specific measurements for neural-rendering overhead, frame time, latency, dynamic image quality, or VRAM use. 2K’s support page says that players can disable the feature or press F9 if frame drops occur. That confirms the feature can be adjusted, but it does not identify the settings at which RTX 5070 will drop frames. The third-party launch review also does not cover DLSS 5.

If DLSS 5 is the main reason you are considering RTX 5070, wait for a model-specific NBA 2K27 test or try the game yourself at a lower output resolution before raising image-quality settings. That is a practical way to evaluate the feature while recognizing that current official material does not answer the performance question.

Who should buy RTX 5070?

RTX 5070 is not the right card for every workload, but its specifications and DLSS 5 support fit a 1440p target well.

  • New build focused on 1440p: RTX 5070 is a reasonable choice. Its hardware and DLSS 5 support both suit high-quality 1440p gaming. If you later want 4K with maximum textures and path tracing, 12 GB may become the constraint, requiring lower texture settings or accepting texture degradation.
  • You already own RTX 4070 SUPER: The main upgrade reasons are DLSS 5 and the Blackwell architecture, not memory capacity. Both cards have 12 GB, and RTX 4070 SUPER is currently outside NBA 2K27’s official DLSS 5 support list. NVIDIA has not said whether that will change. If DLSS 5 is your only reason to upgrade, wait for NBA 2K27 testing before deciding.
  • Upgrading an older platform: Check the power supply and case first. NVIDIA recommends a 650 W system for its test configuration. The card needs a dual 8-pin adapter or a PCIe Gen 5 cable rated for at least 300 W, and the Founders Edition is a two-slot 242 × 112 mm card. Partner cards may be larger.
  • Buying specifically for NBA 2K27 DLSS 5: Official support is confirmed, but model-specific performance data is missing. Do not buy based only on the word “support.” Wait for testing or try the feature yourself.
